Take Me Out to the Ballpark!

On August 15th 1965, over 55,000 screaming fans attended perhaps the most famous rock ‘n roll concert of all time when The Beatles played Shea Stadium. At the height of the Beatle craze, this historic event ushered in the era of stadium / arena concerts that are still popular today. History is repeating itself (sort of) this coming June 17th at the Bowling Green Hot Rods Ballpark when Orchestra Kentucky, The Rewinders and Maestro Jeffrey Reed take the field with the ever popular Beatlemadness.
OK Executive Director, Darrell Edwards, is already in party mode for this tribute to the Fab Four. “Don’t be a Fool on the Hill and miss this Ob-La-Di, Magical Mystery Tour concert event of the year. Help! your Honey Pie down Penny Lane, With a Little From My Friends, to the Hot Rods Ballpark for an unforgettable Something special.”
For those of you that have spent the last 10 years or so in Mammoth Cave, Beatlemadness is the brain child of Maestro Jeffrey Reed and was the launch pad for what is now the Retro Series. “A lot of people grew up listening to The Beatles. Their popularity spans several generations and it’s really one of my favorite concerts to perform because of that. Grandparents, parents and their children come to enjoy a night of music, together.”
Ben E. Tomblinson IV with The Rogers Tomblinson Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, title sponsor of the concert, is really looking forward to the event.
“We are so excited to work with the great team at Orchestra Kentucky again. We encourage the community to come to the Hot Rods stadium and listen to some great Beatles’ music on June 17th. I don’t think it’s a show you will want to miss.”
Rewinder keyboardist, Ernie Raymer, remembers his first Beatle experience. “My first Beatles record was the 45rpm single of I Want to Hold Your Hand. I took it with me when we went to my grandparents’ house because they had a Zenith “High-Fidelity” console. It was a big piece of furniture, much louder than the little record player we had at home. I sat on the floor in front of it and got in maybe seventeen plays in a row before they made me stop.”
The concert is a partnership between Orchestra Kentucky and the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Brad Taylor, Hot Rods team President, is excited about the concert and working with the orchestra. “The Hot Rods are thrilled to partner with Orchestra Kentucky on yet another unique community event to be hosted at Bowling Green Ballpark. With the immense popularity and following of the orchestra, this should be a great family entertainment opportunity for Bowling Green and South Central Kentucky.”
The concert is made possible with the support of Rogers Tomblinson Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors with additional support from First Choice Home Medical and the law firm of Bell, Orr, Ayers and Moore. General admission tickets are available for $15.00. Reserved seats are $25.00 and $35.00 and include a Hot Rods ticket voucher for any 2011 season home game.
