Two people were indicted Wednesday by a Warren County grand jury on multiple charges of fraud dating back nearly three years.

Former insurance agent James Barry Thompson, 46, and Margaret Kay Preston, 38, both of 1517 Mill Creek Road, Tompkinsville, were each indicted on 11 counts of fraudulent insurance acts (more than $300) and 10 counts of second-degree forgery.

The indictments allege that Thompson and Preston defrauded a customer on Dec. 22, 2008, by accepting money from her for an insurance policy that was never obtained for the customer.

The other alleged fraudulent acts involved issuing counterfeit insurance cards to a total of seven customers on 10 occasions between Dec. 29, 2009, and May 7.

Thompson and Preston allegedly forged the counterfeit cards for those customers, leading to the formal charges of forgery against the pair.

The grand jury heard testimony from a special investigator with the Kentucky Department of Insurance.

Warren Circuit Judge John Grise has set a $5,000 cash bond for Thompson and Preston.

Court records do not indicate a scheduled court date or an attorney for either person.
