Law enforcement officials in Barren County are warning about an apparent phone scam that tricks people into thinking they are donating to a church.

According to the Barren County Sheriff’s Office, someone has been calling people in the county and asking for monetary donations and requesting banking information and Social Security numbers.

Victims said the number on the caller ID during these calls appears as First Baptist Church and the calls are from 270-247-1485, but the sheriff’s office said that someone has hacked into the telephone line to unlawfully make those calls. Anyone receiving calls from this number is urged not to give out personal information.
