As part of Campus Sustainability Day on Oct. 20, Western Kentucky University will host Celine Cousteau for a lecture at 7 p.m. in Van Meter Auditorium.

Cousteau, daughter of ocean explorer and filmmaker Jean-Michel Cousteau and granddaughter of the legendary Jacques Cousteau, will be presenting People and the Natural Word: An Exploration of Connection. The event is free and open to the public.

Cousteau’s lecture is sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, Potter College of Arts and Letters, Ogden College of Science and Engineering, Institute for Citizenship and Social Responsibility, and Sodexo.

Her lecture is one of several activities planned by WKU’s Office of Sustainability and other campus organizations as part of Energy Awareness Month. Events include the following:

• Oct. 13: Film screening and discussion of “Sludge” and “Flow: For Love of Water”; 5-10 p.m. at Mass Media and Technology Hall Auditorium.
• Oct. 15: Francisco Ferreira, Cañera del Sur Sugar Cooperative President, will share how Fair Trade Certification has benefited sugarcane farmers in Paraguay; 6-7 p.m. at MMTH Auditorium.
• Oct. 19: Plastic Basket Workshop; 1-3 p.m. at Faculty House.
• Oct. 19: SGA/GreenToppers/WKU Recycling Campus Clean-Up; 3:30 p.m. at Centennial sculpture.
• Oct. 20: Campus Sustainability Day Green Tour; begins at 9 a.m. at the Office of Sustainability, Parking Structure 1
• Oct. 27: Film screening and discussion of  “Crude Justice: The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and the Search for Justice”; 7:15 p.m. at MMTH Auditorium.
