Bowling Green Observation of Halloween

Published 12:00 am Thursday, September 30, 2010

The City of Bowling Green and Warren County will be observing Halloween on Sunday, October 31, 2010 between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m.

Both Police Chief Doug Hawkins and Sheriff Peanuts Gaines recommended that the Holiday be observed on the date in which it falls.

Halloween is a traditional celebration occurring on the 31st day of October each year. In the past, when Halloween has fallen on a Sunday, there have been requests to change the date of celebration.

This year Western Kentucky University’s Football Homecoming and related events fall on this same weekend. There is likely to be a significant increase in traffic volume, gatherings and community activities associated with the Homecoming Weekend events.

A major public safety concern with Halloween Trick-or-Treating involves increased vehicular traffic and the related safety of children walking through neighborhoods and on the streets in our community.

Therefore, the Bowling Green Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office recommends that the City of Bowling Green and Warren County celebrate Halloween on Sunday, October 31st in order to enhance the safety and enjoyment of participants for both of these major community events

As always, please remember to be cautious when trick-or-treating. For a list of 10 safety tips for a better Halloween, please visit the City of Bowling Green website at www.bgky.org.
