Invitational Exhibit 2010

VSA Kentucky’s ArtsACCESS Gallery will be exhibiting artwork, instruments and photographs of 3 Louisville artists, Brenda Wirth, Gregory Acker, and Michelle Amos. All 3 are teaching artists on the VSA Kentucky Roster. Besides being gifted artists, they share their talents and abilities with students K-12 in schools, health care facilities, community centers, and juvenile detention center across the state of Kentucky.
Brenda Wirth is a visual artists and makes her art in response to natural forms. “I spent much of my youth exploring the outdoor environment of creeks, small rivers and woodland areas near the Ohio River.”
Gregory Acker is a community artists in world musics and a homemade instrument-builder. A former Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco (North Africa) and Togo (West Africa), he teaches world music.
Michelle Amos is a fiber artist. Her series of dolls were conceived after a stay at Mary Anderson Center Artist Colony in Indiana. “They are a shrine of people and situations passed away. Wrapped like mummies and encased in woven seed-like pods………”
Teaching Artists are available for residencies through many VSA Kentucky programs. Come see their art and learn more about the many opportunities VSA Kentucky has to offer your school or organization.
The exhibition runs September 7 to October 22. The reception will be in conjunction with the Bowling Green Gallery Hop, October 15 from 5-8pm.
