Fashionista to the rescue: Tailgating

Some people’s favorite season is summer, others spring, but mine without a doubt is tailgating season.  As soon as July hits, I start planning menus, decorations and outfits.   Between the festive atmosphere, good food and spirits, it is a little piece of heaven right here on earth. This year the highlight of the season is the WKU/UK football game on September 11th.  Whether you bleed blue or red, this game has something for everyone.

While some view tailgating as a casual event where a t-shirt and jeans are acceptable, the true fashionista can make any tailgating parking lot her runway.  Adding a colorful beaded necklace, layering sweaters and scarves are simple things you can do that will make you a style MVP.

Weather can play a tricky role in deciding your outfit.  Games in September bring blazing heat and sun while late October will have you freezing for hours.  The following looks will take you through the entire season looking amazing.

For the beginning of the season, I recommend taking advantage of your summer wardrobe while it is still warm.  Pull out your sundresses and shorts and add in your schools colors.  Here our model is wearing a simple black sundress with a red beaded necklace.  We have also taken the now popular faux flannel shirt with khaki shorts.  Both looks will keep you cool while still showing your school spirit.

As it begins to get cooler, mix your collegiate long sleeve tees with the classic denim mini and boots.  Adding an embellished cardi or long sweater to jeans is also a great easy look to put together.  If the game is at night, remember to always throw in a jacket such as a trench or heavy layering sweater to keep you warm once the temperatures start to drop.

The end of the season is near and winter has officially set in.  Tailgating in these conditions can be just as fun as they were in warmer weather if you dress appropriately.  Heavy long sweaters and coats such as bomber jackets work well and look even better.  Throw on a fun scarf and your boots and you will stay toasty the entire day.

No matter what you decide to wear to the game, remember a fun group of friends and delicious food are always good combinations.  Throw in a winning season and you will be sure to have the time of your life!
