POLICE NEWS: Bowling Green man arrested after photographs found in closet

A Bowling Green man was arrested Sunday on child pornography charges.

Curtis Ray Gardner, 21, 1315 Nutwood St., was arrested at 1:42 p.m. in the 7900 block of Barren River Road and charged with four counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

According to a Bowling Green Police Department report, Gardner had been staying with a family he met about a month ago at the skatepark.

While spraying insecticide in a closet used by Gardner, the father discovered pictures of small children who were nude or nearly nude, as well as handwritten journals describing sexual acts with minors, the report said.

Police obtained a search warrant and seized the material.

Gardner is in Warren County Regional Jail under a $50,000 bond.

Arrest — Nicholas Irvin Reed, 25, 349 Audley Ave., Apt. 9, was arrested at 2:10 p.m. Monday at his apartment and charged with trafficking in marijuana (more than 8 ounces, less than 5 pounds) and possession of marijuana.

According to a city police arrest report, officers responding to a reported disturbance at Reed’s residence saw burned marijuana cigarettes in an ashtray. Police found a small amount of suspected marijuana, and about 10 ounces of suspected marijuana were found in Reed’s car in two plastic bags.

He remains jailed under a $1,000 bond.

Arrest — Nwe Aung, 42, 714 Hillgreen St., was arrested at 11:18 p.m. Saturday at his residence and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence).

According to a city police arrest report, officers responding to a complaint were told by Aung’s wife that he had choked her in their kitchen, dragged her into the living room, held a knife against her throat and threatened to kill her.

She told police that Aung struck her on top of her head with the flat side of the knife and then hit himself, the report said.

The woman had scratches on her arms, neck and leg and a cut on a finger.

Aung remains jailed without bond.

Arrests — Daniel Shane Halsell, 30, 4153 Ky. 185, and Ryan Jeffrey Lamberson, 24, 97B Eastern Heights Ave., were arrested Friday and charged with first-degree robbery.

According to a city police report, the two were involved in an attempted robbery Wednesday of two guests at Motel 6, 3139 Scottsville Road.

The victim said he answered a knock on his door about 5 p.m. Wednesday and when he opened the door, Halsell forced his way in and tried to take a safe belonging to the victim.

During the struggle, Lamberson struck the victim in the forehead and right cheek with a pair of brass knuckles on his right hand and grabbed the victim’s wife by her hair and threw her down, the report said.

A cell phone recovered at the scene after the pair left led police to Halsell, and a witness identified Lamberson as the other person involved in the attempted robbery, according to the report. The victim identified Lamberson as his assailant, leading police to charge him also with second-degree assault.

Halsell remains jailed under a $25,000 bond and Lamberson, who was also charged with probation violations, is also lodged under bonds totaling $25,000.

Assault — Police responded about 4:15 p.m. Sunday to a fight in progress in the 500 block of East Seventh Avenue.

According to a city police report, the victim said he was visiting his girlfriend and sitting on the front porch of her house when the woman’s ex-boyfriend arrived.

The suspect ran around the house to the backyard and returned soon afterward with a knife in one hand and a rock in the other.

The victim said the man ran toward him and struck him in the side of the head with the rock, the report said. The victim told police he punched the man and used pepper spray on him to defend himself.

The daughter of the man’s girlfriend said the victim was holding a baseball bat, but had dropped it when the suspect arrived. The daughter then picked it up and swung it at the suspect a couple of times during the fight, the report said.

The rock and knife were collected as evidence and the case remains open.

Burglary — Someone stole an estimated $6,000 worth of furniture from a storage building at Overholt Storage, 2456 Russellville Road, between 5:30 p.m. Aug. 8 and 4:52 p.m. Aug. 10, according to a city police report. Some of the security cameras on site were tampered with and turned away from the storage unit.

Burglary, criminal mischief — Someone broke into Advance America Cash Advance, 2710 Nashville Road, between 5:07 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday and stole a computer tower, a safe and $2,513.19 in cash, according to a city police report.

The inside of the business was ransacked, with the telephone lines and security system destroyed and two copiers and a computer tower damaged.

Losses and damage totaled $5,613.97.

Burglary, criminal mischief — Someone entered Albany’s Steakhouse, 801 Campbell Lane, between 11:20 p.m. Friday and 5:39 a.m. Saturday and stole $700 in cash from a safe, according to a city police report.

Officers found the door to a neighboring, vacant suite had been pried open and a hole was made in the drywall inside, allowing for entry into Cash Advance. Drawers in Cash Advance were rummaged through, and the security cameras were tilted upward. A second hole on the steakhouse side of the vacant suite was made, allowing for entry into the steakhouse, the report said.

Losses and damage totaled $2,100.

Criminal mischief — Someone threw a rock at a 2003 Lincoln Town Car parked in the 2000 block of Stonehenge Avenue between 3 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. Saturday, according to a city police report.

The windshield was cracked and the driver’s side door was dented. Damage totaled $2,000. The victim named a suspect, but police have been unable to make contact with him.

Theft of registration plate — Someone stole the license plate from a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner parked in the 1300 block of High Street between 12:01 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday, according to a city police report.

Theft — Someone stole a 1990 Cadillac DeVille parked in the 1500 block of Bryant Way between 1 p.m. June 16 and 10:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a city police report. The victim said he was jailed June 16 and left his car with someone who had been traveling across the country with him. Losses totaled $1,500.

Theft — Someone stole a 2008 Yamaha Zuma scooter from a garage in the 800 block of Magnolia Street between 8 a.m. Aug. 6 and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 8, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $1,000.

Theft — Someone stole a set of speakers from a car parked in the 2000 block of Morgantown Road between midnight Aug. 5 and 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $500.

Theft — A Scottsville man and a Bowling Green woman reported that the woman’s sister-in-law had stolen jewelry, a laptop computer and trazodone pills from them between July 12 and 16, according to a city police report. The jewelry was eventually recovered before the couple made the report. Police have been unable to contact the suspect. Losses totaled $1,504.

Theft — Someone stole a gym bag containing a laptop computer, three computer games, two video game systems, nine video games and 60 CDs from a 1988 Lincoln parked in the 1400 block of Park Street between 7:30 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. Friday, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $1,790.

Theft — Someone stole an industrial air conditioning unit left outside a building in the 1000 block of Barren River Road about 7 a.m. Aug. 9, according to a city police report. A witness reported seeing a white Ford F-250 drive away from the site carrying the air conditioning unit. Losses totaled $4,500.

Theft of controlled substance — A Bowling Green woman reported that someone took a bottle of prescription hydrocodone from her jacket Wednesday, according to a city police report.

The victim said she thinks the drugs were stolen by someone who gave her a ride to a convenience store on Adams Street.
