Kentucky is home to many talented local photographers. Jennifer Southard of ‘Loving Moments by Jenn’ is one of these area photographers. Southard is 32, married and a mother of three residing in Beaver Dam. Her family keeps her busy, but in her free time she photographs for family and friends preparing to ‘officially’ start her business. She is dedicated to her photography and has self-taught herself since becoming more serious about her work in 2007. She currently uses a Canon 1D mark II with multiple lenses and edits her work with Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Lightroom 2.

When asked about her photography Southard said, “I love photography; it is a real passion of mine. I have been in love with it since 03 when I received my first digital point and shoot camera. I was blessed to purchase a DSLR in 07 and that was the fuel that ignited a true passion. I have been dedicated since then to be the best that I can be. I prefer portraits above all else. Newborns, children, seniors and adults are my preferred subjects. I shoot outdoors in natural light with the exception of newborns that are done indoors but still with as much natural light as possible.”

When asked about her future goals she simple stated that she wants to “eventually go into business. For now, I just enjoy shooting when I can.”

Southard is also the moderator for Southern Kentucky Photographer’s Club and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. “Don’t think that the camera does all the work. If you truly want to become a better photographer, learn your equipment and how to make it work for you. You don’t need the most expensive; you just have to know how to use it. Study and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE is how you will grow as a photographer. I enjoy helping others whenever I can. No matter what skill level, come join us over at SOKY Photographers club! Together maybe we can learn a thing or two.”
