A North Carolina man has been identified as the person killed Friday in a crash on Interstate 65 involving seven vehicles, including two tractor-trailers.
According to the Kentucky State Police, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Lashawn A. McRae, 33, of Winston-Salem, N.C., crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer driven by Michael B. Sherman of Dayton, Ohio at 2:03 p.m. Friday.
The tractor-trailer was stopped in the left northbound lane of I-65 near the 51-mile marker in Barren County due to a separate collision that blocked both lanes ahead.
McRae was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office.
In addition to McRae’s car, a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Sheila Quinn of Greenfield, Ohio, and carrying Sarah Quinn struck the back of the tractor-trailer.
Quinn’s car was struck by a 2009 Lexus LS460 driven by Christopher Bussert of Decatur, Ga., and carrying Margaret Bussert. The Lexus was attempting to shift into the right lane in order to avoid the collision, according to the KSP, and in the process also sideswiped a 2008 Ford Fusion in the right lane driven by John Schuitema of Port Charlotte, Fla., which was carrying Gilbert Schuitema and Marilyn Schuitema.
Also, a tractor-trailer driven in the right lane by Larry J. Allen of Ridgeville, Ind., struck a 2008 Kia Sorento traveling in the right lane behind the Schuitemas and driven by Anthony Seiber, of Memphis, and carrying Angela Seiber, Demaya Spencer, Remell Watson and Opal Williams.
Sarah Quinn was transported to The Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, and Anthony Seiber and three passengers in his vehicle were taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow for possible injuries.
Heavy rainfall and limited visibility affected drivers on I-65 at the time of the collision, according to state police.
