Historic RailPark Hosts Summer Reading Program

The Historic RailPark & Train Museum, at 401 Kentucky St., is hosting RailPark Readings, for children ages 5-8 years old.  The free event will be held the third Tuesday of each month at a different location in the museum.

“Part of the mission of the Historic RailPark & Train Museum is education”, states Sharon Tabor, Executive Director.  “Young children are fascinated with trains and we have some wonderful train stories. We want to share the love of trains and reading with the community and our young friends.  Each evening will be composed of a storybook and an activity relating to that story.  Our first RailPark Reading will be “Owney: The Mail Pouch Pooch”, which tells the true story of the stray dog that traveled across America in the Railroad Post Office car.  The children will then have the opportunity to write a letter to Owney at the Postal Museum in Washington DC.  And Owney has promised to answer each letter!” 

The free summer RailPark Reading schedule is:

May 18:  “Owney: the Mail Pouch Pooch”  Discover the adventures  of Owney the stray dog as he rides across America in the mail car.  6:30 PM. Railroad Post Office Car.

June 22: “The Caboose that Got Loose”. Katie the Caboose isn’t happy with her job.  Find out what makes Katie happy. 6:30 PM. Caboose.

July 20:   “Curious George Takes a Train” Follow the antics of Curious George as he takes his first trip to the Train Station. 6:30 PM. Museum

August 17:  “Seven Little Postmen”   Follow the journey of the letter with a secret for Grandma.    6:30 PM. Railroad Post Office Car.
