Margaret Katherine Palmer, 85, departed from this world on May 14, 2010.

The Oklahoma City native was born July 27, 1924. She grew up a Houstonian and was a longtime resident of Kentucky. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a child, Ms. Palmer worked the gardens and plowed the fields with her parents and her other brothers and sisters for food. She grew up during the Great Depression and had seen many wonderful changes in her lifetime. She graduated from Klein High School in 1942. Ms. Palmer had few jobs in her lifetime. She was a cafeteria cook for Klein High School for many years. She was always a hard worker with many talents. She loved to cook, worked hard on her flowers and was a wonderful seamstress. She enjoyed sewing dolls and clothes for her great-grandchildren. Ms. Palmer will be missed by many friends and family. She was a member of Recreation Acres Church in Texas, which was built by her father, and was an active member of Forrest Park Baptist Church in Bowling Green. She was a loving wife and missed her spouses, Carl Rizzo and Clayton Palmer. Let us celebrate that now she has joined them. Granny, we will all miss you, love Tami. She was a daughter of the late Nancy Catherine McKinley Tappan and George Garrett Tappan. She was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Ray, Richard, George, Walter, LaVerne and Floyd Tappan and Keith, Roy and Kenneth Ward; and sisters, Virginia Smith, Vera Woods and Betty J. Zimmerman.

Services will be held at a later date. J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to wish a special thanks to the staff of Rosewood Nursing Facility and Hospice of Southern Kentucky, along with the family doctor, Dr. Gary Verst.
