Jerry Spears, 59, of Franklin, died at 7:38 p.m. April 30, 2010, at his home with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer.

The Bowling Green native was a loving husband, father, brother, son and a very kind and faithful friend. He was a member, trustee and head of the Clown Ministry (as Jocko A. Clown) and was also a drummer at Crosspoint Tabernacle Church. His hobbies included taking his son for motorcycle rides, playing drums with various bands, Civil War re-enactment and making gifts for his family and friends with his skill of woodworking. He was a former employee of The Medical Center at Franklin, Greenview Regional Hospital, FMC Crane and Fruit of the Loom. He was a son of the late Samuel Spears and Jean Spears, of Bowling Green, who survives. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Christopher Borders; and a sister-in-law, Linda Herrera.

Funeral is at 3 p.m. Monday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Bowling Green Gardens. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and begins at noon Monday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Phyllis Spears; a son, Eric Spears, of Cincinnati; like a son, Brian Orth, of Cincinnati; a sister, Sabrina Borders, of Bowling Green; nephews, Brandon Borders, of Louisville, and Spencer, Samuel and Gabriel Treece, all of Smiths Grove; nieces, Molly, Megan, Meredith and Mallory Treece, all of Smiths Grove; mother-in-law, Georgia Johnson, of Bowling Green; sisters-in-law, GeorgeAnn Treece and her husband, Marty, of Smiths Grove, and Delana LaMastus, of Bowling Green; brothers-in-law, James Earnest Johnson and his wife, Amanda, and Dale Johnson and his wife, Sue, all of Bowling Green; several other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends; and a pet Yorkie, Dixie.
