Glasgow’s Plaza in need of volunteers

Glasgow’s Plaza Theatre is gearing up for their 2010-2011 and looking for new community volunteers to help accomplish their goals.  A wide variety of volunteer positions must be filled for the season that will run roughly August through May.

According to Executive Director Steve Jones, “Over the past few shows, we are seeing a pronounced decrease in the number of volunteers being able to work events.  We have just trimmed our volunteer mailing list from 85 members to just over 40.  This was due to the fact that many folks on that list had not actually attended and volunteered at an event in up to two years.  It was really the core of 40 or so people who were doing all the volunteering.  But because of everyone’s schedule, not all 40 can work every event.  Sometimes it is a challenge to get more than 8 to 10 people that can work a major Plaza event.  For most major events, we really need at least 20 Volunteers.”

Volunteers do not need previous experience and opportunities are available for a wide range of positions such as ushers, greeters, ticket scanners, ticket sellers, concessions, stage crew and hospitality/runner as well as clerical and adminstrative work in the office.  According to the website, “…the basic skills all volunteers need are: patience, dependability, commitment, thoroughness, friendliness and a deep care for the Plaza and our community.”

Volunteers receive free admission to shows for which they work as well as other benefits.
