Roger Rountree

HORSE CAVE — Roger Rountree, 84, of Northtown, died at 8:10 a.m. April 9, 2010, at his home.

The Hart County native was a farmer, logger and a tour bus driver for Mammoth Cave National Park. He was a member of Northtown Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a son of the late Clyde Elmore Rountree and Vada Sturgeon Rountree and the husband of the late Birdie Rountree and Linda Rountree, of Bardstown, who survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Rountree Jr. and Charles Rountree; two sisters, Ester and Mavis Rountree; a granddaughter, Jessica Yvonne Rountree; a great-great-grandson, Layton Dahl Jewell; and a stepson, Jonathon Coomes.

Funeral is at 1 p.m. Sunday at Northtown Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Winn Funeral Home and begins at 9 a.m. Sunday at the church.

Other survivors include two daughters, Vada Eileen Maulden and her husband, George, of Cave City, and Elinor Ann Maulden and her husband, Robert, of Northtown; three sons, Melvin Elmore Rountree and his wife, Kathy, Jimmie Lee Rountree and his wife, Darlene, and Mark Tean Rountree, all of Northtown; three stepdaughters, Suzanne Coomes, of Alaska, Laurie Thompson, of Bardstown, and Cathy Klapper and her husband, Bill, of Ohio; a stepson, James Coomes, of Texas; 10 grandchildren, Armanda Meredith and her husband, Dale, of Hardyville, Birdie Renae Groce, of Cave City, Robert Wayne Maulden and his wife, Tamisha, of Northtown, George Adam Maulden and his wife, Anita, of Cave City, Jammie Darlene Dile, of Block City, Lora Ann Priddy and her husband, Sean, of Hardyville, Joshua Lee Rountree and his wife, Kellie, of Northtown, Melania Vignetti and her husband, Dennis, of Florida, Jeana Deleen Jewell, of Northtown, and Justin Melvin Rountree, of Northtown; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, David Rountree and his wife, Carolyn, of Northtown; two sisters, Nellie Clifford, of Elizabethtown, and Ruth Dickinson, of Horse Cave; and several nieces and nephews.
