The Historic RailPark & Train museum announces their annual recruitment and training program to begin March 27, 2010.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone from Junior High School age to Retirees to meet and greet travelers and share part the history of the railroad and our community with others” states Sharon Tabor, Executive Director of the RailPark. “If you enjoy meeting people from around the United States and all over the world, love history and enjoy exchanging information, this is a wonderful opportunity to become ambassadors for the Historic RailPark and the Bowling Green area as a whole. Talking about railroad history involves so much more than just the machines, people and equipment – it’s about memories and a way-of-life that no longer exists. The railroad changed America and we strive to share that knowledge with our guests.”

“We’re gearing-up for school tours and the influx of summer visitors” states Tabor. “This is a great opportunity for young adults to earn volunteer hours for scout or club requirements, and for retirees to share their memories with visitors” Tabor added. Docents will provide guided tours through the railcars, while the museum inside the depot is self-guided.
Volunteer shifts are usually in 3-4 hour intervals and can be scheduled on weekdays or weekends. Volunteer commitments can be weekly, monthly or an “as needed” basis. Training is provided via classroom instruction, shadowing other guides, and hands-on opportunities.
Classes are scheduled for:
- March 27: 10am – 12 noon
- April 8: 10am – 12 noon
- April 20: 6pm – 8pm
- April 24: 10am – 12 noon
