Last year’s event included over 750 participants from six states in addition to KY and raised over $50,000 to benefit Family Enrichment Center in its mission to empower families and prevent child abuse by providing education, social support, crisis intervention and a safe environment for children and their families. A report from Every Child Matters released on October 21, 2009 shows that five children die each day from abuse and neglect in the United States.  From 2001-2007, 210 Kentucky children died from abuse/neglect.  Kentucky does rank #1 in something…..in 2007, 41 of our precious children died, making us #1 in the nation for child deaths.

All event participants will receive a T-shirt, breakfast reception, “goody bag” and on-site sports massage.  Awards will be given in each age division for runners and walkers!    Families, business, organizations and church groups are encouraged to participate in the event together.

The “Fun to Be Fit” Children’s One Mile Run sponsored by Vanderbilt Orthopaedics will start at 8:00am and cover a portion of the actual Mini-Marathon course and finish inside Basil Griffin Park.  Children ages 5-12 may participate in the event.  It is our goal to encourage overall family health with this event.

Help the Family Enrichment Center “Imagine a World without Child Abuse” and get your exercise at the same time.  For more information on how to participate/register please visit our website at www.FamilyEnrichmentCenter.com or call the office at (270) 781-6714.  Racers may also register directly at Active.com.
