POLICE NEWS: City police arrest man after downtown pursuit

A Bowling Green man was arrested early Saturday on numerous charges after allegedly leading city police on a pursuit through downtown.

According to a Bowling Green Police Department report, police received a call about a woman being chased in her van by another driver, who was ramming her vehicle.

An officer saw the the two vehicles traveling east on Main Avenue near the Clay Street intersection at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday and saw the van being rammed by a car driven by Leeautrick Tiwaine Owens, 22, 337 Chestnut St.

Police attempted to stop the car after it drove through a red light at Main Avenue and Adams Street, but Owens nearly struck an officer’s car at the Kentucky Street intersection and continued into downtown, driving the wrong way up Main Avenue between College and State streets, the report said.

Owens’ car crashed into a retaining wall at the corner of Main Avenue and Chestnut Street and Owens ran from the vehicle. He was found behind a building in the 600 block of Chestnut Street and attempted to elude an officer by jumping a fence.

Owens refused orders by police to lie on the ground and assumed an aggressive stance, the report said.

Police deployed a Taser on Owens until he complied and was taken into custody at 1:38 a.m. Saturday.

Owens was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, second-degree fleeing or evading oplice on foot, menacing, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, no operator’s license, leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree disorderly conduct, reckless driving and third-degree criminal mischief.

He remains in Warren County Regional Jail under a $100,000 bond.

Arrest — Jerry Ray Miller, 64, 270 Ora Huff Road, was arrested at about 3 p.m. Friday and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

According to a city police report, Miller was the driver of a Jeep that was involved in a crash with a Warren County school bus at Victoria Street and Church Avenue.

Miller told police the bus stopped in the middle of the road and that he was unable to stop his Jeep before hitting the bus, which was unloading students, the report said.

Empty cans of beer, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were found in Miller’s Jeep and a breath test showed that Miller had a blood alcohol content of 0.161. The legal limit for drivers is 0.08.

One child complained of injuries to his back, the arrest report said.

Miller remains jailed under a $100,000 bond.

Arrest — Wayne Lee Hoffman, 41, 1310 31-W By-Pass, No. 122, was arrested at 9:15 a.m. Sunday and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, prescription controlled substance not in original container and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a city police arrest report, police responding to the Cardinal Motel on an anonymous drug complaint found Hoffman in the room there.

A search turned up 10 syringes and some straws used for taking drugs, the report said. Hoffman told police the syringes were used for Dilaudid and one straw contained residue that Hoffman said was Dilaudid, according to the report.

Police also found a prescription bottle containing half of a Suboxone tablet wrapped in a clear cigarette package.

Hoffman remains jailed under no bond.

Arrest — James Freeman Hardcastle, 43, 194B Henry Meredith Road, was arrested at 11:54 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Adams Street and charged with second-degree possession of a controlled substance, promoting contraband and public intoxication.

According to a city police arrest report, police responded to a call about an intoxicated person in the middle of Adams Street near T-Mart.

Police found Hardcastle in the area, and he was uncooperative with officers. Hardcastle denied having any drugs on his person prior to being transported to jail, but jail officials found two white tablets on his person later identified as Vicodin.

He remains jailed under a $2,500 bond.

Burglary — Someone entered a residence in the 800 block of East 12th Avenue and stole an amplifier, laptop computer, six microphones, a 22-inch TV, women’s clothing, a portable DVD player and about $100 in change between 9 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a city police report.

A window pane was broken on the front door of the residence. Losses totaled $3,055.

Burglary — Someone stole $40 from a safe at Hobson Grove Pro Shop, 1200 W. Main Ave., at 4:33 a.m. Feb. 7, according to a city police report.

Surveillance video from the business shows someone entering the store during that time.

Burglary, criminal mischief — Someone entered a residence in the 1400 block of Lynhurst Drive and stole a cell phone, DVD player and MP3 player between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Feb. 8, according to a city police report.

Entry was gained by breaking a window on the rear door. Losses and damage totaled $174.

Burglary, theft of controlled substance — Someone entered an apartment in the 1400 block of Cove Court and stole 35 carisoprodol pills and 45 hydrocodone pills between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Feb. 7, according to a city police report. The victim named a suspect, but police were unable to contact her.

Forgery, theft — A Bowling Green woman reported being victimized by a scam at 2 p.m. Feb. 5.

The woman said she responded to a Mystery Shopper Internet ad in which she was requested to cash a check and then send the money, minus 10 percent compensation, via Western Union.

The woman told police she was contacted by e-mail on Jan. 20 by someone who informed her that she would be sent a check for $870 to cash.

She received a MoneyGram check in that amout on Jan. 29, cashed the check at a bank, kept $87 for herself, $66 to pay the Western Union transfer charge and sent the remainder of the money to an address in Malaysia.

The bank contacted the woman on Feb. 5 to notify her that the check was worthless and she was responsible for reimbursing the full $870.

Theft, criminal mischief — Someone broke out the passenger side rear window of a 2007 GMC Yukon parked outside La Quinta Inn, 1953 Mel Browning St, and stole a GPS unit, a Sony movie camera and Panasonic digital camera between 10 p.m. Feb. 8 and 7 a.m. Feb. 9, according to a city police report. Losses and damage totaled $1,350.
