POLICE NEWS: BG couple arrested on drug charges, animal cruelty

Kentucky State Police arrested a Bowling Green couple Thursday on drug-related and animal cruelty charges.

After an ongoing investigation, police arrested Ray “Roy” Lewis, 42, and Sharon Lewis, 41, at 10:30 a.m. at 670 Mount Olivet Road, lot 49.

Both are charged with trafficking within 1,000 yards of a school, possession of marijuana, three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and 15 counts of animal cruelty.

Ray Lewis is in Warren County Regional Jail on $10,000 cash bond. Sharon Lewis’ bond is $7,500 cash.

An affidavit for a warrant said police had the house under surveillance Thursday when they stopped a man leaving the Lewises’ house after having been inside for about 10 minutes. The affidavit said the man told officers he just purchased marijuana from Ray Lewis and that he had seen more marijuana inside.

Based on that information, officers obtained a search warrant. In the home, officers said they found marijuana and dog urine and feces and dirty clothes about the residence “that was unfit to live in.”

Social services were called and children at the residence were taken into foster care, according to an arrest citation. Animals, including five adult dogs, seven puppies, six cats and two hamsters, were taken to the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society.

Accident — Ronald E. Craft, 46, of Scottsville, was injured in a single-vehicle crash at about 4 a.m. this morning in the 5000 block of Cemetery Road.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Craft was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup truck that left the road and struck an embankment. Road conditions are believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Craft, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to The Medical Center for treatment.

Arrest — Cameron Jermaine Jackson, 22, 603B McElwain Court, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Monday at his residence and charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

According to the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force, detectives made multiple undercover buys of crack cocaine from Jackson, who was indicted by a grand jury Jan. 22.

He remains in jail on a $15,000 bond.

Arrest — Christina Ann Cooper, 27, 1281 Collegeview Drive, Apt. B, was arrested at 3 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Mel Browning Drive and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

According to the city-county drug task force, detectives purchased two bags of crack cocaine from Cooper in the 400 block of Morgantown Road across the street from Warren Central High School during an undercover investigation.

She remains jailed under a $10,000 bond.

Arrest — LaDonna Renea Gilbert, 40, 603B McElwain Court, was arrested at 10:45 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of Kentucky Street on two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

According to the city-county drug task force, detectives bought crack cocaine multiple times from Gilbert during an undercover investigation.

A grand jury indicted her on the charges Jan. 22.

Gilbert remains jailed under a $7,500 bond.

Burglary — Someone entered a residence in the 1200 block of Barnwood Court and stole a PlayStation 3 video game system, six video games, two controllers, a netbook computer and $50 in cash between 2 p.m. and 5:04 p.m. Sunday, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $980.

Forgery — Police responded to a report of someone using a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for groceries at Save-A-Lot, 600 U.S. 31-W By-Pass, between 1 p.m. and 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, according to a city police report.

A man questioned by police said he paid for groceries with two $20 bills and was told by the cashier that one of them was counterfeit.

The man said he had just cashed a check at a credit union in Scottsville and had been paying bills Wednesday in Bowling Green but had not exchanged money with anyone.

The man said he believed he obtained the counterfeit bill from the bank. No other counterfeit bills were found on him by police, according to the report.

Theft — Someone stole a wedding ring, a bracelet and a pair of earrings from a residence in the 1600 block of Ridgeside Avenue between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday, according to a city police report.

The victim said that two men renovating her house were working on drywall there that day and that she witnessed one of them enter her bedroom, where no renovations were being done.

The victim said she noticed her jewelry was missing Sunday and suspected the employee who entered her bedroom.

She contacted that man’s employer, who said he would bring her the name and address of the alleged suspect, the report said. Losses totaled $782.67.

Theft — Someone stole two stainless steel cans, two milk crates and two heavy tie-down straps from the bed of a truck parked at Kroger, 711 Campbell Lane, between 12:01 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Jan. 20, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $828.

Theft of a controlled substance — Two employees at The Medical Center, 250 Park St., reported that someone stole prescription drugs and cash from them between 11 a.m. and 11:31 a.m. Saturday, according to a city police report.

One of the victims received a call from the front desk about someone wanting to get medical records, but no one was waiting outside when she got there.

When she returned to her office and unlocked the door, she found a man standing inside who said that a doctor let him in and that he needed his medical records.

When the victim turned around, the man left quickly. Reported stolen were 17 prescription Alprazolam pills and $45 in cash.
