An exhibit of artwork by Jay Swafford will be on display at Greener Groundz Coffee & Cafe at 871 Broadway in Bowling Green beginning January 15th. Swafford’s art has been shown in galleries throughout the South East gaining fans along the way.
His style could be called abstract expressionism but the vivid use of many bold colors in his art also borders upon the surreal. He also ventures into the folk art style.
Swafford studied art in school at WKU and Watkins College and was influenced by modern masters like Kandinsky, Miro, Chagall and Picasso. Swafford was actually a Bowling Green resident for many years in the 1970’s working at several Bowling Green radio stations including WLBJ/”Natural 97FM”, WBGN, WOVO and WKYU-FM under the name “Jay Preston”.
Swafford now lives in nearby Springfield, TN where he continues to pursue his art and serves as Art Director for the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce Gallery.
The exhibit is on display Jan 15-Feb 28. Admission is free. Greener Groundz is open Monday-Wednesday 7am-8pm and Thursday-Saturday 7am-10pm
