- Great Books Discussion Group starts January 5 at Warren County Public Library
Have you ever wondered what makes a book group great? Two vital components: great work of literature and great discussion. Great Books is for those who enjoy classic and contemporary literature along with lively discussion among the participants.
Great books uses the “shared inquiry” method in which the leader asks an open-ended question about the selection, then asks follow up questions to help participants develop ideas and engage in discussion. Variety is what keeps readers enthusiastic about Great Books. Short selections are chosen that are perfect for people leading busy lives.

“In 2008 the two Great Books clubs at Warren County Public Library chose as a title for discussion The Seven Deadly Sins which is a collection of short stories selected by the Great Books Foundation,” says Marilyn Mattingly, Group Discussion Leader. “The stories followed the theme of the seven deadly sins. The groups enjoyed discussing those stories so much that when Great Books published a sequel in 2009, Even Deadlier, the groups unanimously voted to use it for the 2010 discussions.”
Great Books meets at the Main Library at 1225 State Street on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. and the following Thursday at noon. If you are interested in joining in on the fun, please contact Marilyn Mattingly at marilynm@warrenpl.org or call 781-4882.
