- Giuliana D’Adamio, of Bowling Green, received the Bronze Certificate of the Congressional Award for outstanding contributions to the community and undertaking the values of initiative, service and achievement.
The Congressional Award recognizes accomplishments at the certificate and medal levels. Participants in the Congressional Award program set goals in four areas – voluntary service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration and develop plans to achieve their goals. Each program area has established criteria for the number of hours/months that must be dedicated to each program area.
Giuliana spent the last year working on meeting the requirements of the Bronze Certificate level. She spent more than 30 hours making 75 breast cancer pillows for the American Cancer Society. She also spent a weekend at the Owensboro Dioceson Youth Rally to meet the personal development requirements. As an avid swimmer, she set a goal of improving her 200 freestyle time to fulfill the physical fitness program area. In addition, she spent a day exploring the Cahokia Mounds in Collinsville, Ill., learning about the culture of the Mississippians. This trip met the requirements of the expedition/exploration program area.
Giuliana is the daughter of Victor and Lori D’Adamio and is a freshman at Greenwood High School. She is currently in the process of working toward the completion of the Silver Certificate of the Congressional Award and hopes to receive the Gold Medal before graduating in 2013.
