VSA arts of Kentucky holiday sale runs through Dec. 23. The gallery is at 515 E. 10th Ave.
Shelley Owens’ photography is showing at the Cancer Center at The Medical Center through Dec. 15.
The work of Bowling Green native Granville Mitchell is on display through Nov. 30 at the Warren County Public Library Bob Kirby Branch at 175 Iron Skillet Court. Mitchell is a self-taught artist who works as a ticket agent at the Greyhound Bus Terminal.
The 2009 All Kentucky Juried Exhibition will be Friday through Jan. 4 at the Capitol Arts Center.
The Presbyterian Church Gallery is showcasing artworks by church members and others affiliated with the church through Saturday. The exhibit, “Celebrating Our Gifts,” features a variety of paintings, works on paper and mixed media. This exhibit is the second of two church-affiliated exhibits for 2009. The exhibit may be seen from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The public is invited to the reception and to the gallery during viewing hours.
“Salade Nicoise: Paintings By Marsha Heidbrink” is on display through Nov. 30 at The Medical Center’s Health & Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall. Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

The watercolor work of Kim Skipper will be featured at the Warren County Public Library Main Branch, 1225 State St. Thelma Green will exhibit her art at the Bob Kirby Branch at 175 Iron Skillet Court. Both exhibits run Dec. 2-30.
“Side by Side Statewide” is an exhibition of artistic collaborations from Bowling Green, Louisville, Lexington, Somerset and Murray that all participated in the Side By Side Visual Arts Program offered by VSA arts of Kentucky. The exhibition will be at the Kentucky Library and Museum through Dec. 6. The artwork was created by students with disabilities and professional artists working side by side.
Campus
Western Kentucky University’s Hardin Planetarium continues its Star of Bethlehem presentation. The annual show displays the Bethlehem sky around the time Christ was born, and discusses several astronomical possibilities for the Christmas star. Show times will be at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 10. It is closed for Thanksgiving. Doors open 30 minutes before the program and no one is admitted once it starts.
Western Kentucky University’s Department of Art opened its 2009 Student Juried Exhibition, on display through Friday in the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Gallery, which is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Many pieces are for sale.

The Factory at Cave City will feature the Moon Woods Band from 8 p.m. to midnight on the first Saturday of each month. The facility is on U.S. 31-W, just north of the Ky. 90 intersection across from Dollar General Store.

Western Kentucky University’s Steelband will have a concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Admission is $4. On Dec. 2, there will be a free trombone studio in the recital hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. WKU’s Choral Winterfest is at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at Eastwood Baptist Church. Tickets are $10, $8 and $5. Country singer Chris Young will be in concert Dec. 11 at Western Kentucky University’s L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center. Retired Brig. Gen. Dan Cherry will speak at the Warren County Public Library, 1225 State St., at 6 p.m. Dec. 1. Cherry will discuss his book “My Enemy … My Friend.” Cherry is president of Aviation Heritage Park, an educational facility in Bowling Green dedicated to inspiring the youth of today by exhibiting aviation artifacts that represent the careers of distinguished aviators from southcentral Kentucky. This event is free and open to the public.
The Salvation Army will hold a yard sale Saturday to help support young adult activities. There will be children and adult clothing of all sizes, toys, home decor and more at 400 W. Main Ave., in the parking lot in front of the Thrift Store. Call 843-3485 with any questions or to make donations.
Santa’s Secret Hands Festival will be Saturday at Brownsville Community Center. The event helps raise money to provide gifts and food for the community’s neediest families during the holidays. There is a cornhole tournament at noon and a talent contest following a 3 p.m. auction.
Mammoth Cave District of the Boy Scouts of America will have a Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Glasgow. There will be camping and scouting exhibits, games, concessions and activities for the whole family. Volunteers also will be able to sign up boys for scouting troops.
“Light Up Glasgow” will be Nov. 27. Events will include music and refreshments. At 3:30 p.m., Jolly Old Saint Nicholas will be available at the courthouse gazebo for pictures with children and pets. Cost is $5 per picture (4×6), with a portion of the proceeds donated to The Salvation Army and the Barren River Animal Welfare Association. Additional picture packages are available. The Christmas tree and courthouse lighting will be at 5 p.m.
Western Kentucky University Libraries’ Far Away Places series at 7 p.m. today will feature Barry Kitterman, author of “The Baker’s Boy: A Novel.” Kitterman, a faculty member at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., will discuss his novel, which was inspired by his work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Belize in the 1970s. The program is at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 1680 Campbell Lane. A book signing will follow.
November is Dog Month at Dinosaur World. Dog owners will receive $2 off admission when accompanied by their friendly pets on leashes. All four-legged friends will receive a dog biscuit. Special promotions and adoption opportunities will be available with the Barren River Animal Welfare Association.

November is Military Appreciation Month at the National Corvette Museum and all military personnel, firefighters, police officers and their immediate families will receive free admission during November. All branches, including active, retired and Reserve members, will be honored with free admission when presenting a military or service ID.
Breakfast with Santa & Mrs. Claus – A Corvette Christmas will be at 9 a.m. Nov. 28 at the National Corvette Museum.
