Kentucky Repertory Theatre is a great place for a play

I’ve just returned from a wonderful evening at Kentucky Repertory Theatre in Horse Cave, just 30 miles north of Bowling Green.

I have attended a number of plays there over the years and am still amazed at the quality that can consistently be found there. You’ll find the theater to be a charming, very intimate venue where there are no bad seats. The sets and lighting are professional, as are the actors.

Folks, this is not “community theater.”

“Red, White and Tuna” features the third smallest Texas town (Tuna) that is chock full of quirky, Southern characters of all ages, both genders (and some that are somewhere in between). There are about 16 different people you will meet as this hilarious story unfolds.

What makes this so unique is all the characters are played by only two actors who slip from character to character as swiftly as they change costumes. Robert Brock and Henry Haggard do an absolutely amazing job of nailing their characters. I don’t believe that I have ever laughed this much in a two-hour period of time – I don’t remember ever seeing a play or movie as funny as this one.

We have a lot of wonderful attractions in the area we live in – Mammoth and Lost River caves, Orchestra Kentucky, Barren River, the Corvette Museum, etc. Kentucky Repertory Theatre is also a treasure, and we are lucky to live so close to it.

If you haven’t visited Kentucky Repertory Theatre, you’re missing out on quite an evening. “Red, White and Tuna” runs through Aug. 16. If you could use a good laugh, don’t miss it.
