WEHS math department hosting softball fundraiser

The Warren East High School math department is holding a fundraiser softball game against the SAM 100.7 FM radio crew and the Husky Stache comedy team at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Ephram White Park.

Proceeds from the game will be used to purchase TI-84+ graphing calculators for WEHS students.

Faculty from Warren East feeder schools Bristow, North Warren, Oakland, Richardsville and Warren East Middle will participate in the event, which also will feature concessions, raffles, giveaways, children’s activities and music.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Anyone wearing a Warren East shirt will receive $1 off admission.

Muni Ladies hold golf events

The Muni Ladies Golf Association held events in July at Paul Walker Golf Course.

On July 7, Carole Sheen won the first flight, Shirley Jackson won the second flight, Brenda Fry won the third flight and Judy Dobernic won the fourth flight.

Steen, Trudy Lee and Fry recorded chip-ins.

On July 14, Rachel Higdon won the first flight, Jackson won the second flight, Peggy Chaffin won the third flight and Georgia Brenner won the third flight.

Fry, Jackson, Jean Lucas, Shirley Jakel and Daphna Gilbert recorded chip-ins, while Lucas had a birdie.

On July 21, the Muni Ladies hosted a guest day foursome scramble. Finishing first was the team of Dobernic, Atsuko Iwata, Susan Polk and Tara Parker. In second was Georgia Zoellner, Linda Stephens, Kay Connally and Bonnie Claycomb. Third was Sylvia Barrett, Sarah Bettersworth, Lucas and Brenda Harris.

Chip-ins were recorded by Dobernic, Steen, Connally, Claycomb, Sonja Kimmel, Harris and Dean Brosche. Glenda Campbell was closest to the pin at No. 8, while Linda Stevens was closest to the pin on No. 3.

On July 28, Barrett won the first flight, Louise Culp the second, Fry the third and Brenner the fourth. Zoellner chipped in.

Smith records ace at Indian Hills

Tommy Smith made a hole-in-one at Indian Hills Country Club on July 9.

Smith used a 6-iron on the 172-yard, par-3 hole.

Smith’s shot was witnessed by Ralph Pratt, Dale Rigby and David Gay.
