Arts On Main presents Curtis “Dr. Dobro” Burch

At 7:00 pm on July 25 the Allen County-Scottsville Arts Council will present the fourth event of its 2009 Arts On Main series of Summer Concert Events with a performance by “Dr. Dobro” himself, Curtis Burch.

As much a national bluegrass treasure as he is treasure to Kentucky, Curtis Burch is a multiple-award-winning musician. Replacing the legendary Tony Rice in The Bluegrass Alliance, Mr. Burch went on to become a founding member of Newgrass Revival. This ten year stint involved recording and tour collaborations with Leon Russell, THE Vassar Clements, Ronnie Dunn, Willie Nelson, Lowell George, and Leon Redbone, just to name a few.

In 1987, Curtis Burch performed with bluegrass icon Doc Watson on Garrison Keillor’s Prarie Home Companion for the Disney Channel.

1993’s “The Great Dobro Sessions” featuring Curtis Burch won a Grammy, as well as IBMA awards for “Instrumental Recording” and “Event Of The Year”.

Mr. Burch is also an honored recipient of the “John Doprera Award for Acheivement and Excellence in the Art of Dobro Playing”.

Curtis Burch recorded on the soundtrack for “O Brother Where Art Thou?”, which won five Grammys.

In 2003, Curtis Burch, his brother Ricky, and wife Ruthie recorded a live performance with The Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra.  It is this band with a bass player and Kentucky State Fiddling Champion, Joel Whittinghill that will appear at this installment of Arts On Main.

This free outdoor concert will be held at the Arts On Main Pavilion at 201 East Main Street (with adjacent rain locales) in Historic Downtown Scottsville Kentucky. Bench seating is limited, so be sure to bring enough blankets and lawnchairs for the entire family.
