1. Give everyone a rundown of what you’ve been up to lately.

Well, pretty much just trying to stay creative as possible. I’ve been writing a lot. I generally try to write everyday if I can. My debut poetry book has just been published and can be purchased at throwbackbooks.com. I’ve been working on a lot of art projects and playing a few shows here and there with El Masivo. I’ve got a pretty mean typewriter collection going, and I’m always on that never ending search for cool and rare records.

2. Is a full-length release in the future for El Masivo?

You never know with us really. We’ve been writing some new tunes and we’re digging the direction we’ve been taking with our low end grooves. We’ve been talking maybe doing a new EP. I think we’re more of an EP kind of band. Ya know, groove ‘em and leave them wanting more.

3. Top 3 books everyone should read are…

Dear Lord that’s a hard one to pin down to just three for a hardcore bibliophile but, I’ll take a stab at it.

  • The novel Post Office by Charles Bukowski; it’s so raw, bitter, funny, full of sadness and reality, and it starts with one of the greatest beginning lines ever written for a novel; “It began as a mistake.” That’s classic.
  • A Season in Hell and the Drunken Boat by Arthur Rimbaud. This book blew my young teenage mind when I first read it and it still blows my mind in my thirties.
  • The Bible. It has everything in it; love, sex, death, heaven, hell, war, betrayal, redemption, strange visions, and the end of the world.

4. How important are fans to local musicians?

Very, very important. They’re just like breath for lungs, sweat for flesh and, stars for the sky. Can ya dig?

5. Ever lose your keys?

I lose my keys almost every day it seems, but it sure beats losing your sanity.

6. One time while in Nashville, I…

…witnessed one of the most special concerts ever. It was Kris Kristofferson playing solo at the Ryman auditorium. It was an emotional performance with his voice tattered by the years which made the songs take anchor in my heart even more. He mused on stage about his lost friends Johnny, June, and Waylon. While he played and stirred our needy souls, I could imagine that the entire building’s ghosts were all standing in the stage’s wings watching him. One of the most beautiful and spiritual things I’ve ever seen and won’t ever forget.

7. Music wise – what’s your guilty pleasure?

Well, here goes my rock n roll cred; it’s Kelly Clarkson. She has a killer voice and I’ve had a crush on her forever. Once I suggested to the guys in El Masivo that we should do a real heavy tuned down to c version of her song “Since U Been Gone”. Man, you should have seen the look on their faces.
