Featured Artist: Dr. Tim Hulsey

I am so pleased to introduce multi talented artist, Dr. Tim Hulsey.  You may have heard him playing in Skip Bond and the Fugitives or know him through his doctor’s office for cosmetic and plastic surgery.   Now, you see that he has an aptitude for the fine arts.

Tim Hulsey has the artist’s drive in that when he sees a special something, he is compelled to do it.  He said, “I am more of a realist than an impressionist.  I especially like painting and colored pencil”.  His creative endeavors have included jewelry, carving bone and ivory, paintings, pencil drawings, ink, leather works and just about anything else that suits his fancy.

His love of art started in school.  He said he played with sculpture and carving even then.  He won third place with a rams head in high school, but told me that he wanted to be a doctor since sixth grade.

He took a watercolor class with Sandi Schapp in 1982.  Tim’s son is a Fine Arts major in 3D at Watkins and Dr. Hulsey said they enjoy doing projects together. He has played with molds and has created pieces following carving sperm whale teeth using the old whaler’s techniques.

Dr. Hulsey was the first plastic surgeon to begin practicing in the area. He said, “I am lucky to be able to do something that changes someone’s life”.  He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Medical School and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Kentucky Medical Association and the Warren County Medical Association.

Tim plays lead guitar for the locally famed Skip Bond and the Fugitives which formed one night in 2000 to play for a Bowling Green Rotary Club Valentines Day event.  After learning six songs, interest in the band began to grow and so did the song list.   Over the years, they have become a favorite in Bowling Green, and were choosen as The Daily News/Amplifier  “Best of Bowling Green” reader’s favorite band every year since 2002.  They have opened shows such as The Buckinghams, Dionne Warwick and Athena Cage.  You can see where they are playing at:  www.skipbond.com/dates.php   He previously played with The Kaleidoscope which he founded with Hollywood movie directors John Carpenter and Tommy Lee Wallace.

“Art and music add to your life at any age, even if they are not your profession.  I have a well rounded life.  I am a renaissance person and an addiction for knowledge” stated Dr. Hulsey, adding,  “Work hard, be honest and have fun!”
