FRANKLIN — Dr. Donald Richard Rowe, 82, of Franklin died May 21, 2009, at his residence.

The Vantage, Saskatchewan, Canada, native was born Oct. 12, 1926. He moved from Saskatchewan to Austin, Texas, in the 1950s and married Nora Alice Crittenden in 1954. He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering in 1965 from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Rowe served as a professor of engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans and Western Kentucky University. He taught environmental engineering at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. He owned and operated D.R. Rowe Engineering Services until his passing. His passions in life were travel and his farm on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. He was a son of the late William Hazen Rowe and Donalda McIntyre.

A private family service will be held in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Local arrangements are under the direction of Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklin Senior Center, 1301 Crestmoor Drive, Franklin, KY 42134.

Survivors include a daughter, Ahleen Delaire Rowe Finley; a son, Hazen Rene Rowe and his wife, Cynthia Patricia Rowe; and three grandchildren, Charles Alexander Rowe, Laurel Rene Rowe and Jolie Delaire Finley.
