Journalist Doug Fine to speak at Warren County Public Library

From solar panels to driving a truck fueled by vegetable oil, journalist and author Doug Fine is attempting to live a green life without becoming overwhelmed by electrocution or contradiction.
Fine reported for the Washington Post, Salon, U.S. News and World Report, Sierra, Wired, and Outside from war zones like Burma, Rwanda, Laos, Guatemala and Tajikistan. During this time, he recognized he felt most alive while living in wild ecosystems. Following this impulse in contradiction to all the suburban values with which he was raised, he moved to rural Alaska. This resulted in his award-nominated first book, Not Really An Alaskan Mountain Man.

In 2005, Fine decided to see if he can truly live a sustainable lifestyle. He moved to an obscure valley in New Mexico to realize his dream of living in sync with his ecosystem, and to write Farewell, My Subaru, his hilarious account of the pitfalls of living off the grid.
Fine is a regular contributor of adventure and investigative features to National Public Radio. He will speak at the Main Library at 1225 State Street on Thursday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m. Fine’s appearance is in conjunction with the library’s The World As I See It speaker series.
