Robert Tincher, 82, of Bowling Green died at 7 p.m. March 10, 2009, at his residence.

The Beattyville native was a former basketball player for “Uncle” Ed Diddle at Western Kentucky University. He was later named to Louisville Male High School Hall of Fame in October 1997. He was a World War II Army veteran and was named a Kentucky Colonel on Nov. 14, 1958, by former Gov. Albert Chandler. He was made an Honorary Citizen of Bowling Green in 1976. He was a CEO of Monarch Environmentals Inc. for 25 years. A self-made man, he was known for his wisdom and witticism. Among his favorite quotes are “Attitude is everything” and “Obstacles are not really obstacles, they’re just opportunities.” Longtime friend Wes Strader summed up Tincher’s influence in Bowling Green by saying, “He’s helped many people in many ways that nobody knows. He wouldn’t want it public.” He was a son of the late Albert Tincher and Sabrina Tolar Tincher.
