Witt C. Ross

TOMPKINSVILLE — Witt Cecil Ross, 89, of Tompkinsville died March 6, 2009 at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

The Monroe County native was born on Sept. 17, 1919. He was a member of the Tompkinsville Church of Christ and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and early years of the Vietnam War and was in the Fleet Reserve. After retiring from the Navy, he was a grocery store owner and farmer. He was a son of the late Robert Cass Ross and Tempie Elizabeth Green Ross. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Ross and Joe Ross; four sisters, Jessie Stone, Mary Hammer, Irene Kirkpatrick and Gertrude Josephine Williams; and a great-grandson, Rodney Eric Ross.

Funeral is at 1:30 p.m. today at the Strode Funeral Home, with burial in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Tompkinsville Church of Christ of Parkinson’s Disease Association.

Survivors include his wife, Rhoda Charlton Ross; two sons, Robert Cecil Ross of Paducah and Daniel Boyd Ross of Lexington; two daughters, Sandra Lee Keesee of Prospect and Teresa Ann Donelson of Bowling Green; a brother, Gene Ross of Glasgow; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
