Robert F. Goodman Sr.

GLASGOW — Robert Franklin Goodman Sr., 96, died March 5, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in 1912. After retiring as district manager for Ashland Oil and Refining Co., Mr. Goodman worked for a number of years as a patient assistant at Downing-McPeak Vision Center. A lifelong member of Glasgow Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and was for many years teacher of the Go-Get-Em Sunday School class. He was involved in a variety of community activities and had been a member of the Glasgow Lions Club and Glasgow Rotary Club. He was a son of the late Clara Franklin Goodman and Charles Austin Goodman Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Jane Terry Goodman; and a brother, Charles A. Goodman Jr.

Funeral is at 2 p.m. Sunday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Survivors include a brother, Julian Goodman and his wife, Betty, of Jupiter, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Emily T. Grinstead of Glasgow; three children, Robert F. Goodman Jr. and his wife, Alexa, of Atlanta and Terry G. Gillespie and Charles A. Goodman III and his wife, Peggy, all of Glasgow; four grandchildren, David Gillespie and Nathaniel Goodman, both of Glasgow, Elizabeth King of George Town, Grand Cayman, and Jane Kendrick Goodman of Atlanta; two great-granddaughters, Shannon Gillespie of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jordanne Goodman of Glasgow; two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
