- The New Era Below Zero endorsed Kentucky cap designed by Leon Lewis of LS Designs.
New Era, the largest and fastest growing headwear manufacturer in the US will have its new Kentucky/Below Zero cap in stores this month. You can get a sneak preview at Hip Hop Fashions now.
According to band manager, Desmond Bell of Horseman Entertainment, the hat came about after New Era reps in Europe and New York happen to hear Below Zero’s song New Era.
New Era chorus:
Rock it to the front, Rock it to the back,
I’m so cool wit it in my baseball hat
I keep my fitted real low, low. New Era
Plus on every brim I own, gotta keep my sticker on
They invited the band to their convention to perform it. Afterward they asked the group what they could do to thank them for the song. Below Zero told them that they would like to see a Kentucky cap. The hat is only the second endorsed by a band but other endorsed hats include the Spike Lee Joint and DC Comics collections. New Era is also the official on-field cap of Major League Baseball. More recently the iconic caps crop up on the runways during Fashion Week in Paris, on MTV and in celebrity sightings everywhere.
Below Zero was given the freedom to approve the design and choose to work with Leon Lewis of LS Designs ( www.myspace.com/ls_designs ) of Louisville. The former WKU student had designed several flyers and album covers for Below Zero, including their new release Grind B4 U Shine which features the New Era song. LS Designs won the 2007 & 2008 KYMP KAMP Award for KY’s hottest graphic design firm. LS Designs recently became the newest member of the nationally recognized design firm Hardcore Design lead by Miami Kaos. After months of back and forth Lewis’ design was put into production. It represents the state with blue as the color and Below Zero on the back inside an outline of the state where Bowling Green would be. Visit www.myspace.com/below0 for more.
