Tony Hillard, 47, of Bowling Green died at 8:18 a.m. Jan. 1, 2009, at Greenview Regional Hospital.

The Ohio County native retired with the rank of staff sergeant from the United States Marine Corps after 23 years of service. He was a graduate of Warren East High School and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1298 in Bowling Green and Greenhill United Methodist Church. He was a son of the late James L. Hillard and Rachel Grigsby Wilson Hillard and the husband of the late Deborah Ann Lynch Hillard. He was preceded in death by a sister, Benita Windom.

Graveside service is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Kevin M. Hillard of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Katherine M. Bewley and her husband, Adam, of Chantilly, Va.; two grandchildren, Emma and Allison Bewley, both of Chantilly; three brothers, James Hillard and his wife, Maureena, of Scottsville, Ricky Hillard of Rich Pond and Chris Hillard and his wife, Valary, of Franklin; three sisters, Brenda Lowery and her husband, Garry, of Alvaton, Melanie Boone and her husband, Nathaniel, of Madisonville and Amy Payne and her husband, Larry, of Scottsville; and several nieces and nephews.
