SALISBURY, N.C. — Barbara Ann Cassell Nance, 82, formerly of Bowling Green, Ky., died Oct. 22, 2008, after a brief illness.

The Elbert, W.Va., native was born Feb. 7, 1926. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1948. She was employed and later retired from Rowan Regional Medical Center. Following retirement, she worked for the Lutheran Home for several years. She had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1972 and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a daughter of the late John J. Cassell and Helen Dunn Cassell. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rick Hillard of Salisbury.

Funeral is at 1 p.m. EDT today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Summersett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Clarence V. “C.V.” Nance; three daughters, Sister Nancy Nance of Belmont and Michele Hillard and Mary Ann Roberson and her husband, Donnie, all of Salisbury; two sons, Charles Nance and his wife, Karen, of Mocksville and John Nance and his wife, Betsy, of Roaring River; and five grandchildren, Joseph and Claire Hillard of Salisbury and Meredith, Andrew and Leah Nance of Roaring River.
