The overpass at mile marker 14 was demolished Feb. 13 as part of the I-65 widening project. It was originally scheduled to reopen May 12, but was delayed by weather.
“The heavy rain we had made it impossible for the work to be completed as scheduled,” said Greg Meredith, chief district engineer for the Department of Highways in Bowling Green. “This delayed critical phases of the construction effort to rebuild the bridge at this location.”

According to department spokeswoman Keirsten Jaggers, the overpass was widened from 26 feet to 40 feet, giving it 12-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders.
Another I-65 overpass, the Carter Sims overpass, should be complete June 15. Once it is open, demolition of the overpass for Ky. 242 will begin, according to Jaggers.
