Engine and tractor show returning to Auburn park
Published 12:00 am Thursday, June 5, 2008
The 18th annual Logan County Antique Engine and Tractor Show will give young people a glimpse of the past and older people a chance to reminisce.
“People like to see what people used in the past,” said Drexel Johnson, president of the Logan County Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Club, which hosts the event. “A lot of young people never saw it and they like to see how people used to do things.”
Gates open at 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday at Auburn City Park. Antique tractor pulls will be at 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Admission is free. The event will also have equipment, flea markets and concessions.
Organizers expect the show to be bigger and better than ever, Johnson said.
“Last year, we had 400 tractors and 150 engines and 6,000 people,” he said. “It’s an established show. We have people from several states here. Lots of local people and people from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee and Missouri bring things to display.”
The show has grown since it started years ago, Johnson said.
“There are a lot of places that have had tractor shows and engine shows. A couple of fellows from here had been to show and decided to see if we could have one here,” he said. “There were six engines and four tractors the first year. The second year was somewhat better, but not too big.”
Johnson said the show has something for everyone.
“It’s family oriented,” he said. “We want to give something for the people to see.”
Also happening this weekend is the 400-Mile Sale, which will be today through Sunday along historic U.S. 68-Ky. 80.
The sale winds through 60 communities from Maysville to Paducah, many of which have yard sales and sidewalk sales. Antique shops will offer special discounts and there will be special events and food vendors along the route.
