To support the Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green, it will help to have a strong stomach and a sense of adventure.

Beech Bend Park and Splash Lagoon will host the 2008 Rumble Run, a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls7 Club involving a marathon ride on the Kentucky Rumbler roller coaster, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Entertainment and games related to the Rumble Run will be throughout the day, but the marathon itself begins at 6 p.m.

At the Rumble Run, businesses and other groups are sponsoring teams of five people to ride the Rumbler for the whole night.

Twelve teams of five have registered to take part in the first of what may become an annual fundraiser, and Rumble Run chairman Paul Blick said he is taking additional team registrations through Wednesday.

Each team member is asked to make a $25 donation to benefit the Boys and Girls Club and at least one member of each team is required to be on the ride at all times.

The team riders will be sharing a seat on the coaster with Blick, who will attempt to break his own record for most consecutive hours on the Rumbler, which he set at last year’s RumbleFest by staying on board for 51/2 hours.

“I got on toward the middle of the train and stayed on, each time thinking the next time I come into the station someone would be standing in the queue line for my seat,” Blick said in an e-mail. “But as the evening progressed … my fellow RumbleFest attendees started to notice that I had not gotten off since we started.”

Saturday, Blick will attempt to stay on the roller coaster all day.

Throughout the day, Blick will be riding with several local VIPs, including Mayor Elaine Walker and Warren Circuit Court Judge John Brown, as well as Boys and Girls Club members, to help raise money for the Boys and Girls Club.

“We’re looking for thrill seekers with charitable hearts,” said Shannon Stockstill, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club. “We’re excited that Beech Bend is on board with us and we hope that this can be something we can build on year after year.”

Country singer Paul Hill, rock band Casting Shadows and blues band The Fender Benders will perform throughout the day.

Trophies and awards will be given out at the end of the night to teams.

Discount event coupons for the Rumble Run can be picked up at any BB&T bank branch in Bowling Green.

Blick said he will also welcome individual registrations to ride, with individuals being grouped into teams on the day of the event.

The deadline to register is Wednesday.
