This month Sixth Floor is releasing their second self produced CD “Supersonic Hydroponic Phototron”. September 20th at Gary’s. The band has high hopes for the CD which has already been sent to eight major and independent labels with “extremely warm responses from four A&R representatives at the tops of the perspective companies” according to band spokesperson :Scott Curtis. “…all agreed that they thought Sixth Floor was a signable act” This encouragement prompted the band to sign on with a NY based entertainment lawyer to begin a serious search for a label. Perhaps this move can give the band some much needed organization in their promotional practices. Their new lawyer writes “The Biz” for Guitar Magazine a column about the music industry that other musicians might benefit from.

Aside from the recent changes in their business structure, Sixth Floor has been devoting their energies to intensifying their stage presence and show. They are also actively collecting live video footage, such as at their recent show at 328 Performance Hall. The SOKY Fair, Battle of the Bands winner is also finding new stages from Louisville to Atlanta as the three year old band rocks on.

And rock they do, if you’ve ever seen a Sixth Floor performance then you’ve seen John King’s unique ability to possesses the audience. King’s intense vocals and lyrics don’t just touch you, they reach in and yank your guts out. His solid, haunting melodies depict individual trials and tribulations from the alienation of the hard luck Joe to the ever increasing struggle for independence in a world where the powers that be are trying to restrain from every direction. Struggle, both individual and social. Survival, numbing the pain. Rock. He pens poetry.

The influences on the band come from the harder side of Rock and Southern Rock most notably for all – Black Sabbath but also include Van Halen, Nirvana, Danzig, Pantera, Clutch, Lynard Skynrd and Jimmy Hendrix among others.

Jarred Duke, guitarist along with David Shaver, bass have also written some of Sixth Floor’s material, in fact though John King writes most of the lyrics and some riffs, Travis Collard, drums along with Jarrod and David all contribute both lyrically and musically to most of Sixth Floor’s songs. Generally each artist contributes their own instrument’s part to the material. Sharer, also an experienced lead vocalist often backs King on vocals.

When its out we’ll be letting you know what we think of the CD, in the meantime, pick up your copy on the 20th at Gary’s and you can also catch them at Rock The Corvette Museum Charity Music Festival on September 6, open to rockers of any age.
