Patricia Ritter

Patricia Ritter was born and raised in the big city of Philadelphia and moved near Burksville, Kentucky in 1977. “I fell in love with the people and became inspired by the hills, hollows and flowing creeks.”

Formerly a dancer, she began creating watercolors, pastels and photography and is now known for her unique view of Kentucky towns, people and landscapes. She works mainly in watercolor but uses many mediums in her varied artworks.

Patricia said her father could draw very well and encouraged both her and her brother in their art. She took classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia by day and sculpture classes in the evenings.

Ms. Ritter is our Circuit Rider, a field representative for the Kentucky Arts Council. The Circuit Rider’s goal is to help artists who live in their region to connect with the Kentucky Arts Council and the grants that they offer, as well as connecting the artists with each other. She is one of five representatives serving the seventeen counties in south central Kentucky. She also connects schools with artists for workshops and special programs. Patricia has worked with students of all ages in mural painting, watercolor, photography and just having fun being creative. She is a Juried member of the KY Guild of Artists & Craftsmen, the Sheltowee Guild of Artisans and the Visual Arts Market Program. Her work has been exhibited at the Speed Museum of Louisville, The Headley-Whitely Museum in Lexington and was included in the “Kentucky Women Artists—1850 to 2000” Exhibition at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art. You can see some of Patricia Ritter’s work right now in the lobby of the Public Theater of Kentucky during the run of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” December 4th. through December 14th. She also has a piece at the Capitol Arts Center with the All Kentucky Juried Show for which she won the merit award by Charles & Barbara English. She won 1st. place at the Duncan Hines Festival and a special purchase award at the 13th annual Woman in the Arts show this year. “Bowling Green has been very good to me this year,” stated Patricia. She has also received numerous other purchase awards and honors.
