Gallery Hop allows people to see the arts

An event to get more people involved in the art scene around Bowling Green, as other cities in Kentucky have done, sounds like a great idea.

People who are interested in learning more about art and seeing those beautiful, unique pieces of art will have a chance Feb. 29 during the Bowling Green Gallery Hop.

The concept behind the Gallery Hop is mirrored on what Lexington has been doing for more than 20 years, which draws thousands to that downtown to see the 30 art galleries that participate in the event.

In Bowling Green, a group of independent galleries and studios will open the doors for droves, hopefully, to come out and see their work.

This will not only let people see the beautiful studios and arts in our city, but it will also bring business to our historic downtown. In total, 11 galleries will be open for the Gallery Hop.

This may not seem like a lot of galleries, but for the first year to have this event, we believe that it is pretty impressive. Lexington is obviously a bigger city with more galleries, but for our size, this is a great start and we are hopeful it will only get bigger and bigger in the years ahead.

The Gallery Hop will be different from the studio tour, which also features in-home studios. It will feature “brick-and-mortar galleries.”

To make the event even more convenient and a lot warmer due to the cold weather, shuttles will be available to take people from gallery to gallery every 20 minutes.

For those with disabilities, eight of the 11 galleries are handicapped accessible, in essence making this historic event open to everyone.

This is very exciting and we hope the masses truly come out and enjoy the great works of art that our fine city has to offer.
