Gamebytes: Medal of Honor – Vanguard for the Wii

Finally, game makers have created a first person shooter that is complimentary to the controls of the revolutionary Wii system. The difficulty of the controls of the Wii have made past efforts in this genre very difficult to handle, but they have redeemed themselves with Medal of Honor: Vanguard.
Without the complexity of the control system and the ultra-sensitivity of the receiver, this game delivers a wonderful version of a WWII battle against the Nazis. Although, I must say that WWII shooters and killing German soldiers can get old after a while, but when you aim the controller the gun actually centers on your target. The only downside to the controls is that your arm can begin to feel like Jello after mowing down a few hundred Nazis. Since the controls are dependent on your aiming skills, a few breaks in between missions and battles are recommended.
Basically, the story is the same run of the mill WWII plot and the weapons are the very same weapons players have become accustomed to in previous Medal of Honor installments. At the beginning of the game, you are a first airborne making a jump to Sicily when your plane explodes and sends you parachuting out. You must control your parachute with the Wii remote to make your way to the battle field. You’ll use the Wii nun-chuck to crouch, jump, and move your player.
The way the button configuration is set up makes this first person shooter a lot easier than some of the rest for the Nintendo Wii. To throw a grenade you hold down the B button and flip the Wii remote. Aiming with the grenades can be tough to get the hang of, especially since you don’t get much time while in battle. Aiming the gun, however, can be just as hard, but that attribute of the game brings a realistic experience that no other consoles have managed to produce; to aim through your sites hold down the A button aim and fire. To do a melee attack flick the Wii remote in a forward motion. The melee attack is a perfect to use when sneaking up behind an enemy or when in close range.
Now that you have the basic skills required to enter combat, get out there and show your country what you’re made of. If you’re a Medal of Honor fan or just like taking on more WWII missions then you’ll want to get your hands on Medal of Honor Vanguard.
Medal of Honor Vanguard is an 8.
