Barren county all ages show

Published 12:00 am Tuesday, December 18, 2007

December 22, at 7 p.m. Barren County bands will come together to present an all ages show at Barren County High School Auditorium. The metal and southern rock bill includes: IAmYou, A History of Violence, Against it All, Recoil and Pitch Green.

The show organized by Jesse Boggs of A History of Violence and Jason Puckett of Recoil is intended to provide a stage for bands who have difficulty breaking into the rotation in Bowling Green bars and to provide a venue for under age fans who could not attend the clubs in any case.

Jesse Boggs who moved to Thompkinsville from Seattle says he was amazed at the amount of talent he discovered in the area saying “There is a lot of talent in Barren county. Some of the best musicians I’ve ever seen are in these young local bands.” He cited as examples the “really unique” sound of Pitch Green and AIA which he said is a three piece that sounds like a five piece band.

He describes the lineup overall as “tight and together” and the entertainment factor “as much visual as audio”.

Only 500 seats are available. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Underground Attitude (Glasgow) or Edmonton Herald News (Metcalfe County) for $5, or for $7 at the door.

Boggs plans to do several similar shows in the coming year and has already leased the Cave City Convention Center for a “Southern Kentucky Throwdown” featuring Chasing Layne, 6th Floor and five Barren County bands on February 23 and a 10 band Battle of the Bands on April 26. The winning band at the battle will receive $500 cash and recording time at BG Chophouse. Boggs would also like to bring the Spookfest back to Barren County.

There is also talk of creating a profile on myspace for Barren County Bands United to aid bands in gig swapping. Boggs is currently scouting new locations in nearby counties to showcase Barren County’s best. The bands he says are hungry to find any place to play, “It’s not all me, all these bands are really doing this on their own.”
