TOLEDO, Ohio — Joe Frank “Roy D” Grainger, 83, of Toledo died Sept. 14, 2007, at his residence.
The Woodburn, Ky., native professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church of Woodburn. He married Aleyne Barnett in 1945 and to their union, five children were born. Roy was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle. He moved to Toledo with his family in the early 1950s. He retired from the Secor Hotel as manager and supervisor after 30 years of service. He also worked for the Webb and Jones families for many years. He was a son of the late John H. Grainger Sr. and Velma Stahl Grainger. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hoyt Grainger of Louisville, John Grainger Sr. of Woodburn and Charlie Grainger of Bowling Green; a sister, Clara Ruth Bunton of Woodburn; and his beloved wife of 37 years, Aleyne Grainger, who died in 1983.
Funeral was Sept. 20 at C. Brown Funeral Home, with burial Sept. 21 in Woodburn Baptist Church in Woodburn.
Survivors include his children, John R. Grainger, Bobby J. Grainger and his wife, Brenda, Charlie J. Grainger and his wife, Jeanette, Peaches Giles and Teresa Grainger; 12 grandchildren, all of Toledo; 20 great-grandchildren, all of Toledo; a brother, V.K. Grainger and his wife, Barthenia, of Louisville; a sister, Zula Potter of Woodburn; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
