VSA Arts of Kentucky has exhibitions open. Anne Ambrose’s work is on display from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays until Sept. 6 at VSA arts of Kentucky gallery at 515 E. 10th Ave. &#8220A Matter of Perspective” will run through Sept. 10 at the Glasgow Cultural Center at 200 W. Water St. Display hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 781-0872.

Local artist M. Tallon Chalmers, a New Orleans native, will be exhibiting her works at Capitol Arts Theatre through Tuesday. In cooperation with the Bowling Green Fire Department, the Capitol Arts Alliance and Gerald Printers of Bowling Green, Chalmers is offering a limited number of the New Orleans prints to raise funds to support &#8220Adopt A Station” and &#8220Adopt A School.” These prints of New Orleans homes are a collection of original works on paper, hand-colored digital images enhanced with watercolors and prismacolor pencil. The Katrina Doors print, &#8220INTERIOR EXTERIOR,” is free with donations of $25 or more. For more information, call 991-3088.

Watercolors by Margaret Bevarly are on exhibit in the Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall through September.

Pat Ritter’s watercolors and pastels are appearing in the Cancer Center of The Medical Center until Sept. 15.

Campus

The Commonwealth Clarinet Quartet will have a recital at 5 p.m. Sept. 9 in Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center. The quartet includes John Cipolla of Western Kentucky University, Scott Locke of Murray State, Connie Rhodes of Eastern Kentucky and Dallas Tidwell of the University of Louisville. The event is free and is made possible through the support of the Western’s Provost’s Initiative for Academic Excellence and the Department of Music.

Summer Blaze 2007 will be at Western Kentucky University’s E.A. Diddle Arena from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. It features Eve with her sizzling tambourine dancers and a special performance by Lloyd aka Young Lloyd. Eve’s new album &#8220Here I am” is scheduled to be released in early September. Weekend classes are under way for Western Kentucky University’s Basic Rider Course for motorcyclists. It is for nonriders, new riders or someone wanting a refresher course and is open to anyone 16 years of age or older. Coaches are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. Motorcycles and helmets are furnished. The fee for this course is $110. All classes meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Ricky Beavers has karaoke Friday nights at the Brown Jug, U.S. 31-W By-Pass in Bowling Green, beginning at 8 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays at Flealand in Bowling Green.

Kentucky Blues Society will host an event at Utley’s on Sept. 6. Damon Folwer from Tampa Bay, Fla., will perform beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for Blues Society members and $15 for non-members.

Fort Knox Jazz Band will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 on the square in downtown Scottsville.

The Lettermen in Concert and The Swinging ’60s Dance Party to benefit the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra is Sept. 22. The Letterman concert is at the Capitol Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., followed by a dance featuring the orchestra’s big band at the Sloan Convention Center. Balcony seating for the concert only is $40. The concert and dance combined are $100. The concert is sponsored by Carol and Denny Wedge, The Encore, and Betty and Ronnie Moore and co-sponsored by Pat and Robert Goodwin.

Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra’s booster group, Encore, is selling $10 raffle tickets for a trip giveaway, spa session and dinner that will be given away at the Sept. 22 Lettermen Swinging ’60s Dance Party at the Sloan Convention Center. Fountain Square Players will begin its 2007-2008 Season with &#8220Moonlight and Magnolias,” directed by Lynn Gilcrease. Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Capitol Arts Center. Scripts will be available for check-out at the Capitol beginning Monday, but must be returned to the Capitol by no later than Friday. The cast calls for three men and one woman. Performances will take be at the Phoenix Theater Oct. 18-21. Help will also be needed with set construction, costumes, props and stage crew.

Barren River State Resort Park has activities planned for Labor Day weekend including archery, arts and crafts and nature hikes. On Friday, guests can take part in a skit at the shuffleboard courts at the lodge. The Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission announces its second photo contest. Photos from the first photo contest have been used to promote the Glasgow-Barren community and can be found on the Tourist Commission’s Web site, www.visitglasgowbarren.com. Plans are for the photos to be on display at the chamber beginning in mid-August. Entries are due Sept. 15 with winners announced shortly thereafter. The grand prize winner will receive a $250 prize and honorable mention winners will receive $30 each.
