Our library is too important to close

I read an article in the Daily News a few weeks ago that indicated that Kentucky is only utilizing approximately one-third of the funds allocated from the federal and state government for our libraries.

Our county is looking to close the Smiths Grove library and cut services countywide. I moved from Paintsville many years ago. My mother was an elementary school teacher and later a social worker for 35 years and she was a avid reader.

I remember trips to the Paintsville Library from the time I was 5 years old to check out books. Libraries are the life blood of our children, our young people and our elder folks.

Anytime I go to the Bowling Green Public Library, all the computer terminals are full and there are people of all ages reading, checking out books, videos, etc.

If we cut our libraries, we shortchange our citizens from learning. We shouldn’t pay an additional tax for what is already funded through the government. We are already taxed to death here in Warren County.
