On Saturday, August 11, quilt artist Janet Serrenho of Lexington, will encourage hands on participation by visitors, in a demonstration of beginning quilting n sewing simple squares together with a chain stitch on an antique featherweight sewing machine n from 10:30 n 3:30 at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Originally from Covington, Janet graduated from the University of Kentucky and started quilting 9-10 years ago. Her grandmother made hand made quilts on a treadle sewing machine and her aunt worked in a sewing factory and also did quilting. Janet’s inspiration for her quilts comes from the fabric patterns that she finds and she prefers to make full sized art quilts. She is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen.

Works by Janet Serrenho are regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center, located just off Interstate 75 at exit 77 (Berea). The Center’s exhibits, shopping, and travel information areas are all open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the café from 8 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
