Art

Adam Bunger has an art show beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Brickyard Cafe Garden. Bunger, who studied art at Western, describes his art as line propagation formation. The pieces consist of Sharpie permanent marker and acrylic paint and are &#8220destructed” with coffee stains, water, burn marks, tears and crumples.

Teacher-Student Art Exhibition continues through May 26 at Memphis Marsha’s Art Gallery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. For more information, go to http://www.memphismarshas.com.

&#8220State of the Art: The Artist of State Street,” featuring works by Brandon Harrod, David Jones, Jim Jones, Jeff Leake, Jim Quigley, Nichole Shaver and Fleur Whitaker is displayed through May 29 at the Capitol Arts Houchens Gallery. Western Interior Design student projects are on display in the Mezzanine Gallery.

Photographs by Katherine C.H. Epstein are displayed at the Gallery on the Square in Franklin from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday through June 26. Floral Magic, an exhibition of colorful flower photographs by Nashville native Epstein, includes many new and never-before-shown works.

Paintings by Shanna Paul are exhibited in the classroom at the Health & Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall through June.

The Sunny 16 Camera Club, based in Bowling Green, is teaming with Shutterbug Photo Mall to host a regional photo contest. The Sunny 16 Photo Contest is reaching out 70 miles in every direction to find out who the real photographers are. Photos may be entered in three categories and seven sub-categories with thousands of dollars worth of prizes, including a Best of Show prize worth $1,000 in photo enlargements from Shutterbug Photo Mall. Entry packets may be picked up at Shutterbug Photo Mall or online at http://www.sunny16club .com. Entries are accepted from through Sunday at 5 p.m.

Clubs

The Nashville band Moon Taxi is playing at Tidball’s at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The lead guitarist/writer is Spencer Thomson, a 2002 graduate of Bowling Green High School. Moon Taxi just released its first CD, &#8220Melodica,” and is playing all over the Southeast. The cover charge is $5 each.

The Steepwater Band performs at Tidball’s at 9 p.m. May 26. The group has a 10-day tour of Spain and France in July. Music

Liz Carlisle is in Cave City at 7:30 p.m. Friday to perform at the Jeff Bates show at the Convention Center. Born and raised in Missoula, Mont., the 23-year-old singer/songwriter recently graduated from Harvard University, where she became an award-winning undergraduate scholar in ethnomusicology. Tickets for the performance at Cave City Convention Center are $40 at the door.

Tickets are on sale for a special concert series of the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra. The Retro Series opens Aug. 10 and 11 with &#8220One-Hit Wonders,” sponsored by Franklin Bank & Trust Co. and is co-sponsored by Graves-Gilbert Clinic. The second concert in the series is the final return of Motownmadness on Nov. 16 and 17, sponsored by Claudia and Steve Downey, National City Bank and Overhead Door Company of Bowling Green. The Retro Series concludes Feb. 8 and 9 with the first annual &#8220Countrymadness,” a salute to the classic country hits from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, sponsored by Country Music Café and Brian Schuette & Associates. All concerts begin at 8 p.m. in the Capitol Arts Center.

Odds & Ends

A Cat Kids Day at Chaney’s Dairy Barn is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2, sponsored by Whayne Supply. The event is an educational day for youth on agriculture and its importance. Youth can plant their own seeds and take home to grow. There also will be cow milking, a petting zoo, inflatables, face painting and hayrides. The Kentucky Soybean Association, FFA, 4-H, Kentucky Women in Agriculture, Farm Bureau and bee keepers will have exhibit booths.

Warren County Parks and Recreation has an Arbor Day Celebration from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Michael O. Buchanon Park, across from Chaney’s Dairy Barn on Nashville Road. Planned events include a tree dedication, tree ring count (guess a tree’s age), leaf rubbing, pine cone bird feeder craft, face painting, bucket rides by Gill’s Tree Service, Bowling Green Municipal Utilities safety truck demo, Reach for Your Dreams vehicles, fire safety house and free Slushies and Chaney’s ice cream for the kids.

A hamburger and hotdog dinner is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 26 at Schochoh Community Center. The meal also will include chips, baked beans, tea, lemonade or coffee for $5. The fourth annual four-day, 400-Mile Sale begins at 7 a.m. May 31. Bowling Green Human Rights Commission wants to build its coffers in anticipation of government budget cuts by having a &#8220Junk for Justice” sale June 9. The commission is seeking donations of clothing, furniture, books and home interior items, all in good condition. The sale is from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9 at Parker-Bennett Community Center. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 are featured in a mini talent and fashion show at 3 p.m. Sunday sponsored by Omicron Sigma Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The Cumberland Trace Relay for Life Team has a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Cumberland Trace Elementary School to support the American Cancer Society. Cost is $15 a space, $20 for one space and a table; $25 for two spaces and one table and $30 for two spaces and two tables. A book sale is also that day. Paperbacks are $1 and hardbacks are $2. Metcalfe Health Care Center’s Relay for Life Team has a Ride for a Cure poker run Saturday. Entry is $20 for the first hand and $5 for additional hands. Check in is at 9 a.m. on Edmonton Square, with departure at 10 a.m. Prizes will be given at 3:30 p.m. Doughnuts, coffee, maps and directions will be available at check-in of the event, which benefits the American Cancer Society. The Barren River 5K Classic on Saturday is the next race in the third annual Kentucky State Park Race Series. The race starts at 8:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 7 a.m. at the Barren River Lake State Park Resort lodge near Glasgow. The Barren River 5K is the third of five races in the series. The remaining races are the June 16 Possum Ridge 5K at Taylorsville Lake State Park and the July 14 Magnolia 5K at Rough River Dam State Resort Park. Pre-registration fee is $15 and a race day fee is $20. Awards are given to the overall male and female winner of each race and first- and second-place winners in each male and female age division. Kentucky State Parks observes Play Golf America Month in May with a special promotion aimed at young golfers. Through Thursday, any player 18 or under may play a free round at any Kentucky State Park golf course when accompanied by a paying adult. The free play applies at all 20 state park courses. American Cancer Society Relay for Life Poker Run in Warren County is May 26. Registration is in the parking lot of the Bowling Green Police Department, 911 Kentucky St., from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with the ride beginning at 10 a.m. Early registration prior to May 15 is $15; day of event registration is $20 a hand. Passenger, if playing, is $15. Riding only is $10. Additional cards, with a limit of two, are $5 each. The last stop is at Harley-Davidson of Bowling Green.
