Photographs by Katherine C.H. Epstein are on display at the Gallery on the Square in Franklin from May 6 to June 26. A reception is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 6. Regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. &#8220Floral Magic,” an exhibition of colorful flower photographs by Nashville native Epstein, includes many new and never-before-shown works.

The winners of the Women in the Arts exhibition sponsored by The Medical Center are on display in the Houchens Gallery of the Capitol Arts Center through Tuesday.

Artwork by the Kaleidoscope youth continues to be exhibited in the Capitol Arts Center’s Mezzanine Gallery through Monday.

Paintings by Neil Peterie are featured through May 15 at the Cancer Center of The Medical Center.

At the Health & Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall, paintings by Shanna Paul are exhibited in the classroom through June.

The Sunny 16 Camera Club, based in Bowling Green, is teaming up with Shutterbug Photo Mall to host a regional photo contest. The Sunny 16 Photo Contest is reaching out 70 miles in every direction to find out who the real photographers are. Photos may be entered in three categories and seven sub-categories with thousands of dollars worth of prizes, including a Best of Show prize worth $1,000 in photo enlargements from Shutterbug Photo Mall. Entry packets may be picked up at Shutterbug Photo Mall or online at www.sunny16club.com. Entries are accepted through May 20 at 5 p.m.

Campus

Weekend classes are under way for Western Kentucky University’s Basic Rider Course for motorcyclists. It is for nonriders, new riders or someone wanting a refresher course and is open to anyone 16 years of age or older. Coaches are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and motorcycles and helmets are furnished. The fee for this course is $110. All classes meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All classroom and skills hours must be attended in order to successfully complete course requirements. The Western Kentucky University Symphonic Band will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at Van Meter Auditorium. The concert is conducted by Eric Smedley, with graduate conductor Billy Rich and student conductor Justin Combs. Admission is free.

The Western Kentucky University Wind Ensemble’s annual Scholarship Concert is at 7:30 p.m. May 3 in Van Meter Auditorium. The concert will be conducted by Eric Smedley, guest conductor Sir David Whitwell, graduate conductor Matt Shores and student conductor Chris Westover. WKU student Troy Puckett is also featured as a trumpet soloist. All proceeds support WKU student music scholarships. Admission is $5.

Western Kentucky University’s Pre-College and College Cello Studio performs at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center. The concert is free.

Through May, Western Kentucky University’s Hardin Planetarium is presenting &#8220Simple Astrophotography.” The presentation uses photographs taken by the late Richard Hackney and is dedicated to his memory. Presentations are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday through May 6. Doors open 15 minutes prior to each show, and no one is admitted after the free program begins. Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

Western Kentucky University’s 2007 Graduating Senior Art Exhibition, featuring works from more than 30 graduating art students, runs through May 11. A variety of items are on display, including paintings, watercolors, works on paper, fiber arts, ceramics and sculptures. The exhibition was made possible with support from Provost’s Initiatives for Excellence, WKU Art Department, WKU Libraries, Potter College of Arts & Letters and WNKY-TV.

Butler County Odd Opry is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler County Middle School. Admission is at least a $3 donation. Come hear some of the local musical talent and help cancer patients of Butler County. Event is sponsored by Cancer Assistance Inc. Butler Chapter and Butler County Community Education. Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra presents &#8220The Glory of Symphony and Voices” concert at 7:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. Turner Foundation, the concert features Beethoven Triple Concerto for violin, cello and piano by the WKU Piano Trio: Angela Rex, violin; Sarah Boronow, cello; Donald Speer, piano; and Poulenc’s &#8220Gloria” featuring the Bowling Green Western Choral Society and the WKU University Choirs. Tickets are on sale for a special concert series of the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra. The Retro Series opens Aug. 10 and 11 with &#8220One-Hit Wonders,” sponsored by Franklin Bank & Trust Co. and is co-sponsored by Graves-Gilbert Clinic. The second concert in the series is the final return of Motownmadness on Nov. 16 and 17, sponsored by Claudia and Steve Downey, National City Bank and Overhead Door Company of Bowling Green. The Retro Series concludes Feb. 8 and 9 with the first annual &#8220Countrymadness,” a salute to the classic country hits from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, sponsored by Country Music Café and Brian Schuette & Associates. &#8220You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” based on the comic strip &#8220Peanuts” by Charles M. Schultz, will be performed May 3-6 at the Capitol Arts Theatre. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. There is a $2 ticketing fee per transaction. The Capitol Arts Youth Theatre & Ford’s Furniture are presenting the Chase Children’s Series.

Odds & Ends

The Hiseville Masonic Lodge has a community barbecue meal from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the lodge. Cost is $6 for adults and children under 6 eat for free.

Cooks should be gearing up for a chili cookoff, hosted by Broadway United Methodist Church. Preliminary judging is May 2-4 at the church, with the finals May 11 in Fountain Square Park. As many as 200 teams can participate in the competition at a cost of $100 each. The top cash prize is $1,000. Proceeds benefit a church mission trip to Ghana. Plans are being made for the Woodburn Strawberry Festival on May 4-5. The annual festival begins at noon Friday and continues all day Saturday on Main Street in Woodburn. Featured are a citywide yard sale, free booth setups, antique and collectibles flea market, Mennonite baked goods, strawberries and more. The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1165 has a Military Appreciation Day Fly-In from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5 at the Russellville-Logan County Airport. All types of are aircraft welcome. Active military and spouses will enjoy a complimentary meal provided by Rafferty’s. Others can purchase a rib lunch for $8 or a hot dog lunch for $6. Western Kentucky University students are conducting a book drive through Friday for area children. They are collecting new and gently used books at all three Kroger locations and Wal-Mart off Morgantown Road. Organizers hope to collect more than 400 books. Lost River Cave and Valley has an Earth Day Celebration and cleanup Saturday. Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the day, which is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, rakes, shovels and other tools for the day. For more information, call 393-0077.

The American Red Cross has blood drives each Friday at its office, 430 Center St., from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional drives are from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at S&R Tire, 1101 Lovers Lane; and from noon to 4 p.m. Monday at the Red Cross office.

A Relay for Life Team and First Baptist Church-Bowling Green are having a Home Consultant Fair and Open House from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. There will be consultants from kitchen gadgets and bakeware, spa and bath, various jewelry, food, clothing, makeup, stamps and scrapbook companies. Items will be available for purchase and to order. Register for door prizes to be given away at the end of the event. There is no admission charge, but donations are welcome.

The Friends of the Goodnight Library are sponsoring a Spring Book Sale until Saturday in the library’s meeting room. Memberships will be available at the door starting at $5 for a single and $10 for a family. The general public is welcome from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday. Eighty percent of the books are from donations, 20 percent are from library withdrawals; 50 percent are hardback books. Prices start at 25 cents an item, which also includes audiobooks, DVDs and VHS tapes. Proceeds will fund new library equipment purchases.

A donkey basketball game is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Park City Elementary School Gym, pitting Park City Elementary against the WBKO Tube Jocks. Advance tickets are available in the office of Park City Elementary. Advance tickets are $5, gate tickets are $6, children under school age enter for free. Bar B Que Inn will serve barbecue and fixings from the school concession stand beginning at 6 p.m.
